A medium-sized silver cross-reliquary has a quadrifole shape, where a cross is superimposed on the square in Greek proportions with rounded ends. Similar forms of reliquaries were common in Russia from the XIV century.
The obverse of the cross depicts the Lord Almighty, surrounded by four six-winged Seraphim - the angels of the highest angelic rank, closest to God. The words: "I am Alpha and Omega". This is a combination of the first and last letters of the classical Greek alphabet, which is the name of Jesus Christ in the Book of Revelation of John the Theologian, symbols of God as the beginning and end of all things.
On the reverse side - the image of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. On the inside of the front panel there is a Maltese cross framed by prosperous hearts, as symbols of Christian love, for "God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God is in him." (1 In. 4, 16), and on the back of the second sash there is a prayer to the Lord Jesus "Lord, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, prayers for the sake of Thy Most Pure Mother and all saints, have mercy on us".
The reliquary cross is not only a repository for holy relics. It also provides for the possibility of storing a silver image of an icon of a saint - a heavenly patron or images of icons of great Orthodox saints healers and miracle workers.
