In the spring of 1979, a golf equipment salesman named Gary Adams took out a $24,000 loan from his home and founded TaylorMade Golf Company. He rented a 6,000-square-foot building that once housed a television assembly plant. He had three employees and one innovative product: a 12-degree cast stainless steel driver. This metal wood looked, sounded, and, most importantly, performed differently from its solid counterpart. The perimeter weighting of the clubhead increased forgiveness on mishits, and the low center of gravity made it easier to launch the ball in the air. Adams, the son of a golf pro, was adamant that TaylorMade clubs maintain the look and feel of authentic golf clubs and their connection to true golfers. They combined innovation with authenticity, always committed to a passion for the game and a competitive edge, and to working hard to establish themselves and grow. These four tenets would guide them far. The same values Gary Adams chose 30 years ago are still respected and practiced today at TaylorMade, adidas Golf, and Ashworth, providing products that help players of all skill levels reach their potential. Since 1979, our mission has remained the same: to create the best performing golf products in the world.
